How this calculator works
We work out the tax for a full year the way your tax return does: income tax on the ATO’s 2026–27 brackets, minus the low income tax offset, plus the 2% Medicare levy (reduced for low incomes) and your HELP repayment if you have a study loan. Your employer’s super is shown separately, because it’s paid on top of your salary into your fund.
Your payslip may show slightly different tax each pay, because employers use the ATO’s withholding tables, which round each pay and don’t apply offsets until your tax return. Over a full year the two end up very close.
